Skill levels

When people need to learn a language, it’s obviously useful to have a way to indicate their language level. That’s why language levels have been defined. It's important to know that the steps between the language levels are not all the same. This is what you are more or less capable of when you speak Dutch at the following levels:

A0

You don't speak Dutch, or just know a couple of words.

A1

You can have easy conversations about direct needs or very familiar subjects, but the communication is completely dependant on repetition and slow speaking of the person you are talking to.

A2

You can have short social conversations about everyday topics but usually you are not capable of keeping the conversation going on your own.

B1

You can talk about every day topics, but also about work or special interests. You can give your opinion and you can tell why something is a problem. You are able to talk about more abstract topics like movies, books and music.

Unsure about your level?

If you're unsure about your current skill level, you can take a short test. We might also have a brief chat to help me better assess your level. If you're interested, just send an email to info@learn-dutch.nl.

Courses and requirements

For all courses you need to understand English, mostly for the intro lesson and partly for the first few lessons. After that, we will speak only Dutch. The introductory lesson is mandatory, (read the terms and conditons) as it explains how to study effectively — so make sure you don’t miss it. This lesson will be on the Friday before the course starts and is for both the online and physical lessons. It's also important that you’ve completed secondary school, as the programme can be quite challenging.
